Houseflies around the city answer our questions…

My average neighbour is – 40’s, married with 2 kids, 1 dog and a backyard organic vegetable garden

What do you love about your neighborhood? Living so close to downtown, having the convenience of the subway line, wonderful parks and schools, and a tight-knit artistic community.

Riverdale Park - a favourite haunt of tobogganers, young and old

What do you like least about your neighborhood? Unless you feel like Greek or pub food, there aren’t too many dining options on the Danforth.  Also, along with the retired hipsters like the Barenaked Ladies and Gord Downie, the area is home to many well-do white collar professionals.  The neighborhood can feel like Rosedale East at times.

What do you wish you knew before you bought in the area? That fine dining would never really make it onto the Danforth.

Best places to dine? Allen’s, Globe Bistro, The Big Carrot Café, Pantheon, The Taste of the Danforth in August

Best places to caffeinate? Rooster Coffee House, Riverdale Perk Café, Starbucks

Best places to get boozy? Dora Keogh

Looking for organic dinosaur kale or organic brown rice flour in bulk? Your search ends here!

Best places to shop? The Big Carrot, Grassroots, 10,000 Villages, Treasure Island Toys, Body Blue

Best places to toss a frisbee? Withrow Park, Riverdale Park

Best street / worst street and why?

Best street: Carlaw Ave – Although there is a steady flow of one-way traffic, the homes are stunning and offer direct access to Withrow Park and a panoramic view of the skyline.

Worst street: Dearbourne Ave – The sounds and smells of the Danforth are too close for comfort and the street becomes clogged with shoppers looking for parking.

Must drive or TTC friendly? Metro pass all the way.  You can be anywhere in the city in 10 minutes.

Truly a great neighbourhood, in the perfect location. My few cents:

    (1) globe is actually a very good restaurant

    (2) best coffee (and view) by far now belongs to the recently arrived rooster coffee house, across from riverdale park. [but where have demo’s statues gone?]

    (3) despite the jackman obsession, frankland is the top-ranked elementary school in the area at #86 (and is actually in riverdale proper, which jackman is not)

and carlaw for best street? please…

Thanks for the comment Dale. I will add the info about Rooster Coffee House. I’d love to hear your thoughts on best street in the nabe too.
