Houseflies around the city answer  our questions…

My average neighbour is: Mid-30’s with a couple of kids, or old school Italian.

What do you love about your neighborhood? It has the feel of living in the heart of the city, without the craziness.  Lots of trees and parks. Great people.

What do you like least about your neighborhood? Not enough tasty breakfast places.

What do you wish you knew before you bought in the area: For our first 2 years here, St. Clair was under MAJOR construction, which was a huge inconvenience.  But now, with a designated streetcar lane in the center, St. Clair is a dream come true.  Otherwise, after 2 and a half years, I still haven’t found anything negative about this hood that I wish I’d known before.

Best street / worst street and why?

Marshall McLuhan, aka Mr. Medium is the Message and general rock star of Canadian academia, lived at this Wychwood Avenue crib in his heyday. Sold for $2M+ in 2008

Best Street: Wychwood.  We didn’t even know that Wychwood Park existed until our real estate agent was showing off the area and took us there.  It’s a hidden little gem – gorgeous homes tucked away in a small, protected valley that’s sort of become a community of its own within our community.  Very expensive houses, but most Torontonians dream of the day they can live in Wychwood Park.

Worst Street: Oakwood. Buses, major traffic and way too much noise.

Best places to dine? Stockyards, The Rushton, Pain Perdu

Best places to caffeinate? Scratch, Patachou

Best places to get boozy? I don’t know. I don’t really get boozy. Ferro, maybe?

Best places to shop? Wychwood Barns on Saturday mornings – best Farmers’ Market in town.

Best places to toss a frisbee? Hillcrest Park, Cedarvale Park

Must drive or TTC friendly? TTC friendly, now that the St. Clair streetcar construction is over.
